Scarlatti Workshop
Alessandro Scarlatti (1660 –1725) was an Italian Baroque composer especially famous for his operas and chamber cantatas. He is considered the founder of the Neapolitan school of opera. He was the father of two other composers, Domenico Scarlatti and Pietro Filippo Scarlatti. Giuseppe Domenico Scarlatti (1685 –1757) was an Italian composer who spent much of his life in the service of the Portuguese and Spanish royal families. He was born in Naples, in 1685, the same year as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. Students sang 'Se Florindo e fedele' from A. Scarlatti's “The Lady is Still Faithful,” 'Gia il sole dal Gange,' from “L’Honesta negl’Amore,” the lovely 'Le Violette' from “Pyrrhus and Demetrius,” 'Povera pellegrina' from A. Scarlatti's "La gloires d’Italie" No. 4 Vol. I, and "O cessate di piagarmi" from A. Scarlatti's early opera seria “Il Pompeo”. Here I pose as Alessandro (Alessandra?) with one of my students as Marie Antoinette.
