Schubert and Duets Workshop
Student performers of Angel Music Studios will gather on Saturday, February 24th @ 4:00pm at the AMS Guildford studio at 403-14885 100 Avenue, Surrey, buzzer 49. Workshop participants bring $10 each.
Franz Schubert (1797-1828) was an extremely prolific Austrian composer, having composed some 1500 works in his short lifespan. Over 600 of these works are German lieder for solo voice and piano, 150 part songs, 20 string quartets, 20 works for stage, 7 completed symphonies, and 40 sacred works including 8 masses.
We will hear some duets on piano that will include some Austrian Ländler, a mountain folk song in triple meter as danced in The Sound of Music, and sung in The Lonely Goatherd. We will also hear some of Schubert's lieder for solo voice. We hope to hear the first duet half of the Benedictus trio from his Mass No. 2 in GM, and will try the Et incarnatus est trio from his Mass No. 6 in EbM. There are also two barcarolles, a Neapolitan cradle song from Naples, and the Barcarolle from Offenbach's opera Les Contes d'Hoffman. It will be rich time of sharing and learning, and I am looking forward to seeing you all there!
